Quarterback: Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush, Will Grier
Dak Prescott and Will Grier are the only passers under contract going into the 2023-2024 season. Cooper Rush will be back with the Cowboys, signing a new deal in the offseason. Jerry Jones commented earlier this offseason that the Cowboys will look to select a QB in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Running Back: Tony Pollard, Ronald Jones Malik Davis
Tony Pollard will be back on the franchise tag, which was one of the biggest questions of the offseason going in. Ezekiel Elliott, however, will be released by the Cowboys to clear up salary cap space. Running back is now a position Dallas could look to target in the Draft, though they did sign veteran Ronald Jones, who could be a possible No. 2 back.
Wide Receiver: CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, Michael Gallup, Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, Simi Fehoko
CeeDee Lamb had a career-year in 2022 and cemented himself as a capable WR1. But he can’t do it all. Dallas was hoping to get more production from Michael Gallup last season, but he wasn’t the same player following his ACL surgery. Luckily he won’t have to, as the Cowboys dealt two draft picks to acquire Brandin Cooks from the Texans.
Tight End: Jake Ferguson, Peyton Hendershot, Sean McKeon
Dalton Schultz is an unrestricted free agent, and Dallas needs to decide whether to keep the 26-year-old. They could sign him to the franchise tag like they did in 2022. But Jones has an opportunity to save money by letting Schultz walk and giving rookies Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot more snaps.
Offensive Line: Tyler Smith, Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Tyler Biadasz, Matt Farniok, Josh Ball, Matt Waletzko, Chuma Edoga
Rookie Tyler Smith had a sensational season, and Zack Martin made another Pro Bowl and All-Pro team. But decisions must be made regarding Tyron Smith and Terence Steele. Injuries have kept Smith off the field in recent years and cutting him could save money. Steele had a stellar 2022-2023 campaign and is sure to get an extension.
Defensive Line: Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler, Sam Williams, Osa Odighizuwa, Neville Gallimore, Quinton Bohanna, Chauncey Golston, Takk McKinley
The Cowboys defensive line wreaked havoc on opposing QBs last season. Dallas’ 54 sacks were tied for third-most in football. Plus, the Cowboys top three players in sacks, Micah Parsons, Dorance Armstrong and DeMarcus Lawrence, are all on contract next season.
Linebacker: Damone Clark, Jabril Cox, Devante Bond, Devin Harper, Leighton Vander Esch
The Cowboys resigned Leighton Vander Esch, who is a stabilizing force in the middle of the defense. Rookie Damone Clark was expected to miss all of the 2022-2023 season after undergoing spinal fusion surgery last offseason. Instead, he played in 10 games and promises to be a major contributor for the Cowboys next year.
Cornerback: Trevon Diggs, Stephon Gilmore, DaRon Bland, Jourdan Lewis, Nahshon Wright, Kelvin Joseph, Isaac Taylor-Stuart
Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland and Jourdan Lewis all played well last season, but the rest of the CB group struggled. After injuries ended Lewis and Anthony Brown’s seasons, it became clear that the group would need added depth in 2023-2024. Look for Dallas to address this through the draft or free agency. The Gilmore trade is a big one, and he fills a massive hole from last season.
Safety: Jayron Kearse, Donovan Wilson, Malik Hooker, Israel Mukuamu
The Cowboys got impressive production from the safeties in 2023-2024. Donovan Wilson, Jayron Kearse and Malik Hooker all ranked top six in tackles on the team. Plus, the group totaled six interceptions and seven sacks. Resigning Wilson was a top priority this offseason, and the Cowboys got it done.
Special Teams: P Bryan Anger, KR/PR KaVontae Turpin, LS Trent Sieg
KaVontae Turpin had an excellent rookie season in the return game. His average of 10.4 yards per punt return and 24.2 yards per kick return landed him a spot in the Pro Bowl. Following Brett Maher’s postseason struggles, Dallas announced they’ll be letting him walk in free agency. That leaves the Cowboys with no kicker on the roster.
