The NFC East was the best division in the NFL last season, and that likely won’t change in 2023 based on each team’s activity in free agency.
We’ve documented all the major news coming from the Dallas Cowboys offseason. The Cowboys have re-signed many key contributors from a season ago, and then there is the Stephon Gilmore trade and Brandin Cooks trade.

But Dallas’ NFC East foes have also been quite active this offseason. Let’s take a look at what each squad has been up to.
Eagles Lose Multiple Starters
The Philadelphia Eagles narrowly lost the Super Bowl, and it may be a bit tougher for them to return to the big game in 2024 because many starters have signed new deals elsewhere.
The headlining players that have fled Philadelphia are Javon Hargrave (11 sacks, 60 tackles), C.J. Gardner Johnson (six interceptions) and Miles Sanders (1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns). Other key players that are joining new teams include T.J. Edwards, Kyzir White, Marcus Epps and Andre Dillard.
Part of the reason the Eagles allowed so many starters to leave could be due to Jalen Hurts’ impending contract extension. Hurts is entering year four of his rookie contract, meaning a new deal will be needed soon to retain the 24-year-old.
But the offseason hasn’t been a total disaster for Philly. The Eagles have re-signed Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, James Bradberry, Darius Slay, Brandon Graham and Boston Scott.
External free agents Rashaad Penny and Marcus Mariota have also been signed.
Plus, the Eagles have two first round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite losing multiple starters, Philadelphia will likely contend for a Super Bowl next year.
Giants Made A Trade To Bolster The Offense
The biggest news coming from the New York Giants was a trade to acquire Darren Waller from the Las Vegas Raiders. In return, the Raiders will get the Giants 3rd round draft pick in 2023.
Waller has been sidelined a lot in the last two seasons. In that time, he’s missed 14 games due to various lower-body injuries.
But when healthy, he’s a top-tier TE. Waller had 1,145 yards in 2019 and 1,196 yards in 2020. Time will tell if his body can hold up in 2024.
New York also re-signed Daniel Jones and Darius Slayton; both were crucial to the team’s offensive success last year. Saquon Barkley received the franchise tag, which will keep him in the Big Apple for at least one more season.
The Giants’ most significant loss thus far has been Julian Love, who inked a deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Love led the G-Men with 124 tackles, two interceptions, and tallied six tackles for loss.
Commanders Shuffle The QB Room
The Washington Commanders’ offseason hasn’t been as exciting as the rest of the NFC East.
Washington’s headlining moves have been releasing Carson Wentz and letting Taylor Heinicke walk in free agency. That makes Sam Howell next year’s starter and Jacoby Brissett has been signed as a backup.
The C-Men did make a splash by re-signing Daron Payne to a four year, $90 million deal. Payne led the team with 11.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss in 2022.
The Commanders also signed Andrew Wylie to a three year, $24 million contract. Wylie spent his first five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, moving around from guard to tackle throughout his career. He’s also a two-time Super Bowl champion.
