Dallas Cowboys 2023 Schedule Breakdown
This schedule is no joke
In total, Dallas will play nine games against playoff teams from this season. Granted, that includes four games against division foes Philadelphia and the Giants. But Dallas also draws a few teams who barely missed the dance in the Jets, Patriots and Lions, all of whom could improve heading into 2023.
Other than Carolina and maybe the Rams and Arizona, there aren’t any easy wins on this schedule.
The AFC Beast
Dallas’ conference crossover is a stiff test, as they’ll face each member of the AFC East. This division boasted two playoff teams and the worst team was the Jets, who started the season 7-4 before finishing 7-10. Gang Green has some of the best young talent in the NFL. The Patriots will be hungry after Bill Belichick announced he’ll be back. The Dolphins have an exciting upstart team. And the Bills aren’t going anywhere.
Dallas Draws Super Bowl Favorites
Speaking of the Bills, it’s interesting that Dallas’ schedule will likely feature next year’s Super Bowl favorites in each conference. Heck, both Buffalo and Philadelphia could be on a collision course for this year’s Super Bowl. And they’re both on Dallas’ schedule next year.
Projecting Cowboys Schedule 2023-2024 primetime spots
It’s always interesting to guess which matchups the networks will salivate over in primetime spots. The offseason will obviously impact which teams the TV networks want.
The Cowboys played five night games this year. They’re probably guaranteed to play two against division opponents (they did this year against Philly and New York). Outside of those, I could see the Bills, Patriots, 49ers, Dolphins, Lions and Chargers as potential primetime spots.
Double-duty in the Big Apple and City of Angels
One fascinating quirk of Dallas’ 2023-24 schedule is that it’ll face both teams from New York and Los Angeles. The Cowboys will take two separate trips to the Big Apple while heading to L.A. once for a battle with the Chargers.
It’ll be really interesting to see how the NFL groups these games together. The league could opt to make the Jets and Giants games back-to-back, and the same goes for Dallas’ West Coast games against the Chargers, Cardinals and 49ers.
The hope will be that Dallas takes as few trips to each coast as possible, as too much travel could take its toll.
